SFA Charity Tournament. Weather in the morning started about 40 and by mid day it was about 70. My partner and I fished the Little Niangua as that is where we found the warmest water (55). Linn Creek is about 45 degrees while the Osage Area is about the same. Big Niangua is starting to warm up but is still 50. We started the morning in and around the 3 mile marker of the Little Niangua. Fishing Docks and laydowns. We did not catching anything between 7 am till about 10am. Which is when we decided to move up further in the Little towards mile marker 4 and 5. There we found muddier water and began fishing docks in and around 3-5 feet of water. First fish of the day was caught at 11am and came off a Sexy Shad Squarebill - Livingston Lures- in about 4 fee of water- North banks. Fish weighed about 4.5 pounds and crushed the squarebill... For the next 2 hours we beat the bank hard hoping for another but did not catch another keeper. On the opposite side of channel- South Side- was a bluff wall. We knew there were fish in the area as 2 fellow anglers caught nearly 20 pounds the day before in the same area. One was a 7.5 slaunch. Because the water was dirtier the further you went up the Little, we decided to start throwing Black and Blue finesse Jigs-Jakked Baits - 5/18 or 3/8 with a zoom beaver trailer. For every drum we caught, we caught 3 bass. Fishing from the 5 mile marker to the 6th, we caught a total of 5 fish and about 3 drum. Broke off about 5 times on what could have been good keepers. Overall the fishing was better in the afternoon and had a great time with a jig bite. Fish were caught mostly on transition banks or areas with docks nearby. We would cast at the bank, let it sit, hop it once or twice and then cast again if we would not get a bite. All bites came right off the bank in shallow water. Big fish came from under a dock in about 1 foot of water. Finished the tournament in 3rd place - 4 fish with a total weight of 12.45lbs. First place was 14.56 lbs and Second place was 12.65 lbs.
